Local health care heroes honored for their charitable efforts Acts of community support and kindness were on display as Indian Stream Health Center (ISHC) announced its 2017 Community Service Award Honorees. “The foundation of a healthy community is strengthened by those who volunteer, support, and advocate on behalf of those less fortunate,” said Jordan Phinney, Patient and Financial Services Director at ISHC. “We’re thrilled to recognize local individuals, groups and organizations who have helped make the North Country a better place.” For the past several years, ISHC has recognized local advocates in three categories: Community Health Advocate Award, Community Service Award and the Tricia McGuire Youth Health Advocate Award. Ms. Phinney added that ISHC seeks nominations from across the community. “In support of those struggling with addiction, Amanda, Susan and Jacklynn have devoted their time and support to programs held at the Monadnock Congregational Church,” said Ms. Phinney. “Their work has included: encouragement to those coping with the disease of addiction, coordinating with Congregational Church leadership to advocate for a safe, comfortable space for meetings, having pizza delivered and providing baked goods for meetings and events. These caring individuals have been a major source of support to some of the most challenged in our community.” Community Service Award: Grace Community Church (Pastor Frankie Sawicki) “Over the past several years, the Grace Community Church in Canaan has truly become the heartbeat of the community,” said Ms. Phinney. “The church provides numerous events that benefit the community, ranging from providing free meals, fostering social interaction for community residents that may not have places to go and connect with others and providing safe and healthy places for local youth to gather and thrive.” She added that beyond the church organized events, it also lends out its community room to other organizations to host events and programs such as: Al-Anon, Yoga, Flu Shot Clinics, Blood Drives, and WIC programs, among others. “Pastor Sawicki and the Grace Community Church are a valuable community partner in providing programs to our community that promotes social wellness, healthy prevention, and cessation and support,” said Ms. Phinney Tricia McGuire Youth Health Advocate Award: Kesler Lyons “Kesler is an amazing young man,” noted Ms. Phinney. “He graduated from Canaan Memorial High School in June and had already achieved professional credentials including Pro Board Firefighter I and passed the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians knowledge and practical exams. He currently serves as an upstanding member of the Beecher Falls Volunteer Fire Department as a firefighter and EMT, all at the age of 18.” Ms. Phinney said that all the honorees “truly embody the concept of service above self and we’re thrilled to recognize and thank each for all they do.” Comments are closed.
